Then, I found 5 Spotify users amongst my friends to interview, asking for more detailed questions about their music habits, their interest in lyrics of songs and eventually, the reason behind that interest. Let’s start with the basics! Quantitative and qualitative dataĮven tough I hadn’t used before a service/app to see songs’ lyrics, I was eager to learn more about music apps users’ needs and interests so that I decided to submit a quick survey on Google Forms to get a feedback on the possibility of integrating this lyrics feature into the Spotify app on mobile devices. This one, specifically ended being the one I had to keep an eye on during the last steps of my project, when it came to design, design, design.but hey, we don’t have to rush!
I also analyzed some other music Apps like Apple Music. Musixmatch (left) and Apple Music (right) I wondered if maybe there was an already existing agreement with a secondary platform in order to compensate for this lack and I discovered that, in November 2019 Spotify renewed a partnership with Musixmatch (they signed a first deal in 2016), the world’s largest lyrics catalogue, to allow their users to synchronize their Spotify accounts and playlists with Musixmatch app and be able to read lyrics of songs they are listening to on mobile devices. After conducting some competitors research I especially noticed that Spotify lacks of lyrics/karoke and eventually lyrics translations option. However, something is missing in this temple of music.
With a wide community of proud members, Spotify has one among the best music discovery algorithms and the slickest and most attractive user interface, not only in my opinion. The streaming service generated nearly 4.3 million downloads from iPhone users and 8.86 million downloads from Android users. In January 2021, Spotify was the most-downloaded music and audio app in the Apple Store and Google Play Store worldwide.
